Jim Sterling enjoys a bit of hype (His Jimquisition channel is fabulous check it out here.)

So yeah, hype. It’s a reason people buy new games before they’ve finished the old ones. Something new and shiny is out there and they need to have it. So to make this even harder for himself (if that is even possible) Picto has agreed to take a look at the new releases each month and let you know which ones are sending his spidey sense tingling and which he couldn’t give two hoots about. Let’s start with January shall we?

The List*:

-          The Escapists 2 - (Nintendo Switch) - Jan 11

o   I don’t have a Switch yet. I mean I really want a Switch. Really, really want one and almost bought one a couple of weeks ago but I don’t currently have one so this is easy. Also I think the original Escapists game is on my pile of shame unplayed…

-          Street Fighter V Arcade Edition - (PC, PS4) - Jan 16

o   I’m rubbish at fighting games and haven’t really played one since PS1 so this is an easy one. Not interested.

-          Gintama Rumble - (PS4) - Jan 18

o   Never heard of this one but a quick Google tells me it is a hack’n’slash in the mould of Dynasty Warriors, for that reason… I’m out.

-          World to the West - (Nintendo Switch) - Jan 18

o   Another Switch title I can’t buy. It’s a standalone follow-up to Teslagrad which again is sitting forlornly on my pile of shame. I think this is going to become something of a theme…

-          Death Mark - (Switch, PS4) - Jan 19

o   Horror Adventure/Visual Novel. I’m probably too much of a coward to play this, which is why Resident Evil VII is still on my “to be completed” list. That said it’s a visual novel so how scary can it be? Anyway not heard of it so I can safely pass on this one without too much angst.

-          Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory (PS4, Vita) - Jan 19

o   I’ve never played a digimon game. Is that like a pokemon rip off? I do like RPGs but I think I’m a bit late to the party on this one.

-          Kirby Battle Royale - (3DS) - Jan 19

o   I don’t own a 3DS and this is a fighting game so this one is easy. I do like Kirby mind you…

-          Lost Sphear - (PC, Switch, PS4) - Jan 23

o   Japanese RPG… OK I’m listening… A spiritual successor to I Am Setsuna. Bollocks I think that is on my PoS already… Next!

-          The Inpatient - (PSVR) - Jan 23

o   I do have PSVR… but this is a horror game and I’m a big wuss… but it’s made by Supermassive Games who do makes games I like, Until Dawn & LittleBigPlanet I'm looking at you. I feel like I’m talking myself into this one. It would be fun to watch one of my friends play it… 6/10 on the hypometer.

-          Dragon Ball FighterZ - (PC, PS4, Xbox One) - Jan 26

o   Not a fan of the show and it’s another fighter so it’s a hard pass from me.

-          Monster Hunter: World - (PS4, Xbox One) - Jan 26

o   I’ve always wanted to play a Monster Hunter game but I never got round to it. I’m pretty sure they were always on consoles I didn’t own. It’s sentences like “Monster Hunter: World received "universal acclaim" from critics” that make me think this should be the right time to get into the franchise… 7/10 on the hypometer.

-          Railway Empire - (PC) - Jan 26

o   Trains: -100,032 on the hypometer. No thank you.

-          Dissidia Final Fantasy NT - (PS4) - Jan 30

o   I do love a final fantasy game… but again it’s a fighter (whats with all the fighting games this month? Can’t we all just get along?) Also I’ve never played the earlier ones so I think I’m OK missing out on this one.
